Ugh, that sucks. I dont have too much experience with 88 version yet. I guess one way to workaround could be to unsolder PIC, solder to a placeholder board, program PIC with PICkit there and move back to HB. I believe there are also devices you could fit your PIC in to program but never used one of those.

AR
12:43

What does the tester identify
12:45
Does it check boost circuit , ldo, mosfet, capacitors or does it just check defective chips
12:46
If it just checks chips does it identify all defective chips or does it stop at first defective chip
R
12:47
Raz
The tester indicates if the signals goes through the board, and is showing at the same time if all the chips are detected, or if the signal is blocking somewhere
12:48
About booster, LDO, Mosfet and all that, you can check them, and check their values, while the tester is doing its job
AR
12:48
Args RR
Ok
R
12:49
Raz
But the tester mainly focus on chips and temp sensor, which is already a big time saver
AR
12:49
Args RR
So if one chip down then intros it and run test again
R
12:50
Raz
It may detect and show defective chips, but it doesn't mean that this chip is in fact defective. It could be a resistor/capacitor missing, an LDO burned, bad booster, etc. It's still a board tester, that doesn't have eyes and multimeter probes in hands
12:51
Especially for L3+, they can be tricky. The tester may guide you, but you're the one with the real power of diagnosis

12:51
Args RR
Is there a procedure to follow in proper order
R
12:53
Raz
In reply to this message
A procedure about what, more precisely?

Of you mean a procedure for the tester, it's almost plug & play

For repairing boards, it depends of many things, including the type of board and the problem itself
AR
13:24
Args RR

It's mainly plug & play. You plug your PSU on the board, you plug the tester, you press play

The issue with L3+/++ is that many times the last 2 domains, 11th and 12th was bad and many times reflow/replace those last 12 ASICs was the only way to make it work. Not sure if the ARC is really necessary for L3 boards but for newer boards yes, definitely worth every penny. You still need to diagnose bad dcdc, bad boost, LDOs, then repair RI/RO and finally get to the 72 ASICs showing
